An exciting opportunity has arisen for a flexible manufacturer at Indigo Brands in Epping, Cape Town.
The position involves the dispensing of raw materials accurately and timeously for manufacturing processes, and, when required, manufacturing mass batches in the form of emulsions, powders, colour cosmetics, fragrances and various personal care products, which adhere to the company’s standard of quality and with accordance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
The role also requires the incumbent to implement world class best practices by leading the world class operations (WCO) fundamental practices.
one to three years’ experience in a stores’ environment
excellent colour discernment
two to three years’ experience in the manufacturing of products
recognised technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in inventory control/management, theory/functionality of manufacturing equipment, computer skills, raw materials handling, GMP knowledge, and colour matching skills.

Key performance areas
Productivity, cost, quality, delivery, safety and morale (PCQDSM), raw materials and bulk mass delivered OTIF according to the plan:
weigh out raw materials on time and in full, according to the plan, the BOM/works order and the relevant SOP
ensure relevant targets are achieved for the key departmental measures in the form of PCQDSM
report reasons for non-attainment of performance measures (KPIs)
report any delays of the plan to the senior storeman
PCQDSM, PC&B items manufactured and delivered OTIF according to the plan:
ensure that the batches of masses are produce on time, in full in accordance to the plan, the manufacturing instructions provided and relevant SOPs
complete all associated paperwork in the form of works order are completed in full
Ensure that the batches of masses are produced in accordance to the standard time for the batch.
ensure that the batch is confirmed and booked in on SAP
ensure that the relevant targets are achieved for the key departmental measures in the form of PCQDSM
report any delays to the plan to the processing manager
supply detailed records of all deviations made to the formulas and/or manufacturing instructions during processing of masses and bases to the processing manager
when required, batches not meeting the required quality standards are to be reworked as per the rework instructions
obtain assistance from the R&D laboratory when manufacturing problem can’t be solved
attend pilot training sessions.
Inventory control and management ensured
Following the relevant SOP’s to ensure stock is managed as required and accurately controlled in the following areas:
receipt of stock
movement of stock
issue of stock
return of stock
Action any stock discrepancies when identified by following the relevant SOPs. Update the computer system with all physical stock transactions carried out by COB on the day of picking/weighing out.
Carry out stock checks for accuracy. Investigate and report any discrepancies picked up during stock checking and day-to-day operations.
World class best practices implemented
This requires the following of the employee:
attend and actively participate in all WCO task force meetings and green area meetings
action relevant WCO implementation actions to ensure desired score in the relevant WCO practices are obtained
for designated area of responsibility, ensure master cleaning, inspection schedule/logs are completed and up to date, and that the AM file is updated
complete 6S audits as per rotation
for area of responsibility, ensure that cleaning and sanitising and scale validation logs are completed and up to date
report on progress/achievements of picking schedule and deliveries from stores and suppliers and any problems related to the schedule in the daily green areas meeting
ensure that all teamwork practices are performed according to best practice e.g. team meeting follows agenda, action logs and VM graphs are updated and actions are logged
participate, investigate and report on breakdown maintenance and effectively participate in preventative maintenance and autonomous maintenance days
identify any maintenance requirements that need to be carried out in the department and submit the requests to the relevant person.
Safety and housekeeping
This requires the following of the employee:
identifying possible hazards and suggests ways to eliminate or control them
operate machinery (i.e. forklifts and electrically powered pallet trucks) in accordance with the safety regulations
ensure that checklists are filled in for all forklifts and electrically powered pallet trucks
adhere to the housekeeping and 6s standards of the manufacturing and stores area and the relevant cleaning schedule in order to ensure that the working environment is always orderly, clean and tidy
at all times, all health and safety procedures, regulations and policies pertaining to the raw material store and manufacturing environments are to be followed/adhered to
ensure that any incident is reported immediately
report any unsafe condition, machine, procedure to the processing manager
take necessary steps to continuously be up to date with the requirements of the related acts to ensure Indigo’s responsibility and accountability
in close liaison with the risk co-ordinator, and engineering colleagues ensures that the assets conform to the health and safety requirements according to the related (e.g. OSH) Acts
attend to safety audits and inspections as required from time to time.
Hygiene and sanitisation:
clean and sanitise the working environment regularly as per the master cleaning schedules and the cleaning and sanitising log to maintain required standards
ensure that workbenches, work area, containers and utensils are cleaned and sanitised before use
Problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives identified and implemented:
identify and complete root cause analyses
identify, execute and complete profit improvement projects
Quality and GMP:
at all times, quality and GMP procedures, regulations and policies pertaining to the manufacturing environment are to be followed/adhered to
perform personal hygiene practices in accordance with required standard.
ensure relevant PPE is work and replaced as frequently as possible
follow relevant operating procedures for machinery and equipment
ensure that the raw materials received are in the correct quantity and are within the required specification, based on raw material experience
identify and suggest improvements that will assist in improving the quality and productivity
communicate problems that may be hampering the manufacturing process and affecting the productivity of the department
report any quality issues or potential quality issues to the processing manager or the senior manufacturer
Business process and administrative duties:
for area of responsibility, ensure that the SOP documents are reviewed, updated and the associated training is conducted
identify and report on changes to manufacturing instructions
identify and report when standards/batch cycle times are to be updated
regularly review and update all cleaning, inspection and lubrication schedules and 6S audit sheets in conjunction with the senior manufacturer
