Metsä Board’s benchmark for sustainability

The outer rigid box of the SkinCare 2.0 gift box was produced using a new pulp moulding processMetsä Board presented a range of innovative sustainable packaging solutions at Luxe Pack 2018, which took place from 1 to 3 October. The company also featured a range of its packaging analysis and design services. These include material and structural analysis and the modification of existing packaging to a fully customised design complete with graphics.

An innovative and award winning SkinCare 2.0 gift box was highlighted at the event. Instead of plastic, the Metsä Board used fibre-based materials to produce the gift box. The outer rigid box was produced using a new pulp moulding process. Each of the three inner cartons were created with lightweight paperboard. The box incorporates unique opening and reclosing features. It also provides maximum runnability performance.

Using a creative customer case study, Metsä Board showed how packaging design should communicate with each part of the value chain and how it is to be at the core of any luxury brand.

‘The challenge facing many premium brands is how it can maintain and develop a premium positioning. At the same time, it must meet the consumer demand for less packaging and for packs with genuine sustainability credentials. By combining the sustainability benefits of our lightweight paperboards with innovative packaging design, clients can achieve an even more sustainable solution. Our role is to inspire brand owners, converters and designers with our fresh fibre materials and our award winning packaging designs,’ says Christophe Baudry, sales director at Metsä Board. The company’s South African agent is Durban-based Paperforce.
